About Us

We celebrate our first anniversary in February 2024. We operate as an ecumenical book club, discussing popular titles by distinguished progressive Christian writers such as John Shelby Spong, Marcus Borg and Brian McLaren. After the introductory meeting in February 2023, our first book was Steve Chalke’s ‘The lost message of Jesus’. At our April meeting we had a presentation by one of our members on Hyam Maccoby’s 2004 work, ‘Revolution in Judaea: Jesus and the Jewish Resistance‘. Then in May we began a discussion of John Shelby Spong’s ‘Unbelievable: why neither ancient creeds nor the Reformation can produce a living faith today’. In December we started Brian McLaren’s ‘The great spiritual migration’.

We welcome anyone with an interest in open, non-dogmatic conversation, from any religious background or none.

Venue & Meeting Times

We meet on the first Tuesday of each month: 2.00pm for a 2.30pm start then the actual meeting runs until 4.00pm. The meetings are in the Garden Room at Romanby Methodist Church, Harewood Lane, Romanby, Northallerton, DL7 8BB (entrance at the left hand side).
